Liquan Pi wins 2021 Hetherington Prize

Congratulations to Liquan Pi on being awarded the 2021 Hetherington Prize!

The Hetherington prize is awarded for the best talk at the annual 2nd year Materials Research Student Talk symposium. This year's symposium was postponed from Hilary Term due to Covid-19.

In total 44 talks were given and Liquan's presentation Oxyfluoride rocksalt cathodes for Li-ion batteries was judged to be the winner for the effectiveness of his communication with a mixed audience of Oxford Materials researchers.

Mark Hetherington was a Senior Research Fellow in the FIM/Atom Probe group. He was a brilliant researcher, and an outstanding communicator. Mark was tragically killed in a car crash in 1990. In memory of his life and of his contribution to the Department, Mark's parents, Stan and Kay, set up a fund to provide an annual prize for the best presentation of a 2nd year talk. Additional funds were provided more recently by the Armourers & Brasiers’ to enhance the fund.
