James Somerville

DPhil studentJames Somerville

In 2014, James Somerville graduated with honors from the University of California, San Diego earning a B.S. in NanoEngineering. During his time there, he worked in Professor Shirley Meng’s Laboratory for Energy Storage and Conversion, studying novel anode materials for the application of sodium-ion batteries. As a direct consequence of that experience, James progressed to postgraduate work at the University of Oxford where he now develops and characterises cathode materials in the Peter Bruce Group. In his little spare time, James represents his fellow Materials DPhil students on the Materials Joint Consultative Committee for Postgraduates, has held the position of Sports Secretary for Linacre College, and plays for the Oxford University Blues football team.
