Dr Francis Kinyanjui

Postdoctoral Research FellowThomas Esterle

Francis obtained his B.Sc in Chemistry from the University of Nairobi, Kenya in 2005. This was followed by a stint at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg Sweden, where he got both his M.Sc (2009) and PhD (2013) qualifications under the supervision of Professor Sten G. Eriksson. His dissertations were in the field of intermediate temperature fuel cell materials, both proton and oxide ion conductors, with an emphasis on the structure-property interplay of the materials. Francis regularly used neutrons to characterize his materials with frequent visits to ISIS-RAL in Oxford to collect data.

His research interests include energy storage and conversion materials, renewable energy technologies, design, synthesis and characterisation of materials.

In 2014 he joined Professor Bruce’s group as postdoctoral research fellow at the University of St. Andrews before relocating, later in the year, to the University of Oxford with the research group. Currently he investigates lithium ion battery materials to elucidate on their fundamental workings.
